Going Viral Isn’t Always Good 🦠

It’s not a good look when people choose not to do anything with the information they have. Obviously you’re not one to sleep on trending news. Mpox is a viral disease still living rent free in our communities—but we can block it and stop the spread. (Let’s leave going viral to influencers, eh?)

If you get the vaccine, it could probably help with the symptoms not being so bad. If you can get something that could help, or even help prevent it, why not go do it?

What is Mpox?

Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) is a rare viral disease that spreads through prolonged physical contact. Noticeable after 3 weeks of exposure, the first sign is usually a rash. The illness typically lasts 2-4 weeks, during which time you have to self-isolate.

How Is It Spread?

Mpox is primarily spread through contact with infectious sores, scabs, or body fluids. It’s often contracted through intimate skin-to-skin contact (think sexual activity, kissing, massaging, and hugging). Though chances are lower, bedsheets and clothing that have been used by someone with mpox and not disinfected can also perpetuate the spread.

Is Mpox Related to COVID-19?

Nope, the two are completely unrelated. Mpox is less contagious, spreads differently (via intimate contact for a long period of time versus through the air), and usually involves a rash as a main symptom.
